Will Breaux always dreamed of designing his own home, but he didn’t want just any ordinary house—he envisioned something truly unique. After years of searching for the right design and struggling to find someone who could bring his vision to life, Breaux decided to take matters into his own hands. The result? A striking, three-story home built entirely from shipping containers, standing proudly on McGowen Street in Houston.
Constructed from 11 repurposed shipping containers, Breaux’s innovative home spans an impressive 2,500 square feet and even features a rooftop deck. While many people might have given up on such an ambitious idea, Breaux’s determination and passion pushed him forward.
His journey toward homeownership began in the early 2000s when he started searching for architects and builders who could help design the unconventional home he had in mind. However, he quickly realized that no one truly understood his vision. Frustrated with setbacks and unsatisfied with the designs presented to him, Breaux eventually decided to take full control of the project in 2011.
Rather than relying on traditional construction methods, Breaux became fascinated with the potential of shipping containers as building materials. Their durability, fire resistance, and ability to withstand hurricanes made them an appealing choice. Even though he lacked professional building experience, he took it upon himself to learn everything he could about container construction. Using online resources, research, and a trial-and-error approach, he meticulously crafted a detailed 3D model of his future home.
The process was long and challenging, requiring countless hours of planning, problem-solving, and hands-on work. But his perseverance paid off. Today, Breaux’s dream home is fully furnished, featuring modern interiors and all the comforts of a conventional house—while standing as a testament to innovation and determination.
